Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday. It is known as the festival of lights and is a time to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. It also marks the start of New Year in Hindu calendar and is celebrated for 5 days, which includes prayers, feasts, fireworks, family gatherings, and charitable giving.

This year YaleNYC's Foodtober and The Culture Tree celebrate Diwali and its delicious foods and mithai (Indian sweets). Join us at a Diwali food tasting at TAGMO, a restaurant by award-winning chef Surbhi Sahni that brings homestyle regional cuisine from across India. The event will include a tasting of 4 appetizers from across India that pay a homage to the diverse cuisines of India and also to the festival of Diwali. We will end with a mithai tasting, in which chef Surbhi Sahni will tell us more about mithais, and play a spice guessing game with the attendees.

Please note that due to the nature of this event, yaleNYC will be unable to accommodate special dietary needs or restrictions. We will strive to provide a broad sampling through various appetizers. This event is limited to 50 participants -- get your tickets now to secure your spot!

Foodtober is a month of activities and events celebrating and examining our connection to food. Foodtober22 is organized by yaleNYC, connecting Yalies with each other and our communities. Net proceeds from Foodtober22 events benefit Xavier Mission and support YALE.NYC'S ongoing programming.

YALE.NYC event tickets are nonrefundable. If you are unable to use the tickets you have purchased, please let us know so that we can make your space available to our waitlist or scholarship attendees. Proceeds from unused tickets may be donated to the event beneficiaries or used to fund event expenses. Photos might be taken at YALE.NYC events for use on YALE.NYC'S website, newsletter, and social media.
