Food, Facts, and Futures: Walking & Tasting Tour of Chinatown and the LES

Taste, talk, and tell-all tour of Chinatown and the LES, led by 3rd-gen Yalie and local activist Rockwell Chin!

What memories and aromas linger from the past? What challenges await the future? Join long-time resident activist Rocky Chin on a taste, talk, and tell-all tour of two of NYC's most important immigrant communities: Chinatown & the Lower East Side. The walking tour will feature samplings of the neighborhoods' delicious offerings, visits to local highlights and hotspots, and stories of social activism, immigration, and the changing fabric of these vibrant neighborhoods.

Rocky, a third-generation Yalie, is a member of the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni (AAAYA) and of the Yale Alumni Association's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force. He has lived on the LES for 40+ years and is currently a member of the NYC Commission on Human Rights.

The tour will begin at Strauss Square (East Broadway/Rutgers/Canal/Essex intersections) and end at Essex Market/Seward Park where many more LES restaurants and food venues await their private sampling after the event.

Please note that due to the nature of this event, yaleNYC will be unable to accommodate special dietary needs or restrictions. We will strive to provide a broad sampling of the neighborhood's tastes. Foodtober is a month of activities and events celebrating and examining our connection to food. Foodtober is organized by yaleNYC, connecting Yalies with each other and our communities. YaleNYC event tickets are nonrefundable. If you are unable to use the tickets you have purchased, please let us know so that we can make your space available to our waitlist or scholarship attendees.
