Paul Freedman is the Chester D. Tripp Professor of History at Yale where he has taught since 1997, before that he was at Vanderbilt University.  His teaching and research have concentrated on the history of the Middle Ages (particularly in Catalonia).  The history of food and cuisine is a relatively recent interest.  In 2007 Freedman edited Food: The History of Taste, translated into eleven languages.  He is the author of Out of the East: Spices and the Medieval Imagination (2008); Ten Restaurants that Changed America, (2016), American Cuisine and How It Got This Way, (2019) and Why Food Matters (2021), a short book published in the Yale University Press series “Why X Matters.”. A children’s book (ages 10 and up) on American history through food, entitled “Bite by Bite,” will appear in spring 2024.

 

Tickets are $40 per person, or bring a friend for just $75 for a pair of tickets. There are also discounted tickets for BOLD classes. Don't miss the opportunity as space is limited.

 


Foodtober is a month of activities and events celebrating and examining our connection to food. Foodtober is organized by yaleNYC, connecting Yalies with each other and our communities. YaleNYC event tickets are nonrefundable. If you are unable to use the tickets you have purchased, please let us know so that we can make your space available to our waitlist or scholarship attendees. Proceeds from unused tickets may be donated to the event beneficiaries or used to fund event expenses. Photos might be taken at YaleNYC events for use on YaleNYCs website, newsletter, and social media.
